Event Summary:
Governor Martin O'Malley and a delegation of Maryland business leaders, educators and government officials will travel to Brazil for a seven-day trade mission in December. The trip will strengthen economic and cultural ties between Maryland and Brazil as Governor O'Malley and the delegation meet with top officials, and potential business and investment partners. In 2012, Brazil was Maryland's 11th-largest export market, with exports to the country more than doubling from $143 million in 2009 to $308 million in 2012. Brazil is home to one of Maryland's 11 foreign trade offices. The primary purpose of this mission is to generate interest and attract targeted Brazil foreign direct investment (FDI) to Maryland, and advocate on behalf of Maryland companies' export-to-Brazil activities. This mission will present the State an opportunity to brand itself in Brazil as the best location in the United States for the physical operations of foreign companies in key industries such as biosciences, advanced technology, green technology, defense and finance.
