March 1, 2005 - The Oakland Export Assistance Center in conjunction with the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office, the Hong Kong Trade Development Council, and the Commercial Service in Hong Kong organized a video market briefing on the Hong Kong film industry. This was among one of a series of events the Oakland Export Assistance Center has organized to promote the San Francisco Bay Area’s film industry sector.

This project to promote the East Bay film business was a direct result of the strong collaboration between the Oakland Export Assistance Center and our Commercial Specialist colleague, Ms. Alice Lai. Prior to the Oakland Filmart Video Market Briefing, our office had hosted Ms. Lai for one-on-one meetings with several clients in the film industry. The video market briefing was a follow-up to these meetings and it also served to prepare companies who were going to participate in the Product Literature Display at the Hong Kong Filmart 2005 Trade Show. The Oakland Video Market Briefing featured three Hong Kong film distribution/production companies, where representatives highlighted the opportunities for U.S. film companies in Hong Kong.

As a direct result of these events to promote the San Francisco East Bay film industry, five local film companies participated in the Product Literature Display at Filmart 2005 and over 60 trade leads were generated for these companies. In addition, Ms. Gini Graham Scott, Creative Director at Screenworks, has already made multiple international sales from her participation at Filmart 2005.
