July 25, 2003 - A buying mission from the Philippines met with California companies on July 25 at the Port of Oakland. The second-largest supermarket chain in the Philippines and a sister company were represented at the event, which targeted shelf-stable foods and beverages such as condiments, canned meats, wine, dried fruit and nuts, and breakfast cereals. The mission was organized by several members of the California Ag Team, including the California Department of Food & Agriculture, the USDA's Foreign Agricultural Service, the East Bay Center for International Trade Development, and the Oakland Export Assistance Center of the Department of Commerce's U.S. Commercial Service.
The California Agri-business Team is a consortium of agriculturally-focused public and private entities led by the Agricultural Export Program. The "Ag-Team," as it is commonly referred to, was formed to provide a seamless series of trainings and services to the California agricultural community. The Ag Team supports individual exporters by providing information and training to prepare them for the challenges of entering the foreign marketplace; identifying suitable markets for specific products; and organizing multiple venues for new and experienced exporters to meet foreign buyers.
