International Pow Wow (IPW) 2013 - U.S. Travel Association's Trade event (June 2013)

The U.S. Travel Association's IPW is the travel industry's premier international marketplace and the largest generator of travel to the U.S. - it is NOT a typical trade show. In just three days of intensive pre-scheduled business appointments, more than 1,000 U.S. travel organizations from every region of the USA (representing all industry category components), and close to 1,200 international and domestic buyers from more than 70 countries, conduct business negotiations that result in the generation of more than $3.5 billion in future Visit USA travel. At IPW, buyers and sellers are able to conduct business that would otherwise be generated only through an exhaustive number of around-the-world trips.

Philoxenia 2012 "Discover America" - CS Athens Literature Promotion Program (November 2012)

Philoxenia, Greece's premier annual international travel and tourism exhibition, takes place every year in Thessaloniki, the second largest city in northern Greece.

The CS Athens Literature Promotion Program (LPP) customizes and expands-upon the traditional catalog show. We select the best trade shows at which to hold the LPP, in sectors that offer the greatest potential for U.S. firms. We know that it is very important that we understand your products or services, and your objectives for participating in this event, so before the event we will ask you to complete a Company Profile, detailing your products or services, your competitive advantages, your objectives for participating in the LPP, the most important criteria that you are looking for in an overseas partner, and other important information. We will then call you to review your Profile and answer any questions you may have. All of this information will better enable us to discuss your products or services with visitors to the event and to obtain the right information from them.

CS Athens' participation in Philoxenia, which started in 2010 for the first time, through its “Discover America” Literature Promotion Program was a resounding success, generating Export Successes for the participating U.S. companies. In addition to the display of U.S. companies' literature in our booth, CS Athens will arrange for a number of promotional activities for U.S. participants before, during and after the show.

Before Philoxenia, CS Athens will send press releases to all major travel media, major tour operators and travel agents, and to the Philoxenia organizers. During Philoxenia, CS Athens will distribute press releases with the profiles of U.S. participating companies to travel journalists that participated in the press conference given by the Minister of Tourism. And following Philoxenia, CS Athens will arrange with internet travel sites to upload information on our participation. After the event, CS Athens will provide the trade leads generated at the show to the U.S. participants and send a follow-up message to the firms we met with, reminding them of our meeting.

New Service Added: Philoxenia Organizers will again invite foreign tour operators that will be available for pre-arranged one-on-one meetings. CS Athens plans to meet with and promote the U.S. participants to these tour operators.

Participation fee is $300 per U.S. entity. This is a very popular event so be sure to reserve your space right away!

U.S. Educational Travel Seminar in Osaka (December 2012)

The U.S. Commercial Service Osaka will organize a “U.S. Educational Travel Seminar in Osaka" to showcase destinations suitable for educational travel on December 5, 2012 at the U.S. Consulate General, Osaka-Kobe. We would like to invite you to join the seminar.

School trips are a unique part of Japanese education and culture. Over 3 million students participate in school trips each year. Given this volume of school travel, Japan's educational travel market is significant. U.S. locations have good potential as destinations for school trips and especially their off-shoot: English language study tours. While the number of students participating in English language study tours is smaller than school trips, the average cost and length of stay for these tours are higher and longer than school trips. Please see the attached report on the educational travel market for further information.

Although we learn English from the 7th grade in Japan, it is for examinations and not as a communication tool. Therefore, few people can speak foreign language, unfortunately. Cultivating “global human resources” is one of the top priorities for Japan and local governments. The excellent international exchange programs are one of the key elements for high schools to attract students. For examples, Osaka prefecture started a new program called “Osaka Global School” and will send about 50 high school students to San Francisco for two weeks.

In April 2012, we conducted a research on the international programs at 162 Osaka public high schools and found that over 100 schools (gross) sent students to overseas as a school trip or a language study tour in the past several years. However, 50 schools visited Australia/New Zealand while 15 schools visited the States including Guam.

There are over 330 public high schools and approximately 280 private junior high schools and high schools in the Kansai area. (Kansai includes Osaka, Hyogo, Kyoto, Shiga, Nara and Wakayama prefectures here.)
