EICMA 2012 is the premier annual global trade event for the motorcycle sector. The last EICMA hosted 1,174 exhibitors on 135,000 sq. meters of exhibition space, and welcomed a half million visitors (50,000 trade visitors) from 110 countries. Besides being the #1 showcase for all brands of motorcycles, EICMA features Moped, Motorbike, scooters and tricycles (including electric); separate parts and accessories for motorbikes; a growing customizing segment; helmets, apparel, luggage and accessories of all types, as well as a showcase of services, such as for the tourism sector.
* Market Potential: According to ACEM (the professional body of the European Motorcycle Industry that represents the interests of 13 powered two-wheeler manufacturers producing more than 30 brands, and 15 national associations), Italy has the greatest number of motorcycles in Europe, (2.4 million mopeds smaller than 50cc and 6.3 million motorcycles greater than 50cc.). In 2011, almost 330,000 new vehicles were registered: over 253,000 vehicles over 50cm³ and over 75,000 mopeds under 50cm³. The Italian market offers interesting opportunities to those U.S. companies able to provide high-tech motorcycles, unique designs, accessories and safety devices, etc. The same is true for companies that produce hybrid and zero emission vehicles, a sector that has increased in its importance in recent years. In particular, the products that combine respect for the environment with features attractive for the demanding consumers hold the key to success. It is impossible to identify all the sub-sectors that could offer good opportunities to U.S. companies: ATVs, UTVs and Off-Road vehicles; Customized vehicles and accessories; Electronics; Gear and Apparel / Helmets / Luggage; Motorcycle tourism; Parts & Maintenance, Tools & Equipment; Racing & Performance; Safety and security devices; ‘Green' vehicles (including parts and components).
*In partnership with Marazita & Associates, the organizer of the USA Pavilion, the U.S. Commercial Service in Italy provides a range of services to U.S. exhibitors and visitors:
> Promotion campaign to hundreds of Italian distributors to inform them about the U.S. exhibitors
> No cost interpreter support staff at the event (former Commercial Service Milan office)
> A fee-based, special EICMA 2012 Commercial Service Matchmaking Service to identify possible distributors in the Italian market ($450)
> Commercial Service Milan coordinates participation by selected colleagues from other US Embassies in Europe, who will visiting EICMA 2012 and counseling U.S. exhibitors (as it was done in 2011 by our Automotive Team colleagues from Czech Rep, Germany and Sweden; and who will provide matchmaking activities with non-Italian distributors attending the event; and who will offer and carry out spin-off activities (e.g. GKS) in thier countries after EICMA with non-Italian distributors.
