|LAAD Defense & Security 2013 -- Aircraft/Aircraft Parts, Computers/Peripherals, Computer Software, Defense Industry Eq., Electronic Components, Security/Safety Eq., Telecommunications Eq.|
Latin American Aerospace & Defense 2013 (LAAD 2013), the most important trade show for the defense and security industry in Latin America, will take place April 9-12, 2013, at Riocentro in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Sponsored by Brazil's Ministry of Defense, Armed Forces, Federal Police Forces, and leading defense and aerospace associations, LAAD 2013 will offer U.S. exhibitors the opportunity to meet with high-level, high-quality government and military delegations, enabling U.S. exhibitors to network and do business while meeting with key military government and security decision makers from a wide range of countries.
With the largest defense budget in Latin America, Brazil's defense budget has risen 50 percent in the last six years. Brazil is in the process of procuring upgrades and new technology for its armed forces while seeking joint ventures for in-country manufacturing and partnerships for current and future programs. In addition, Brazil will be hosting the World Cup of Football (2014) and The Summer Olympics (2016), which will further expedite the procurement of not only defense equipment and services, but products for Law Enforcement and Security applications.
Latin America as a whole has experienced a significant rise in both military spending and arms imports. Military spending rose to US$48.1 billion in 2008 (growth of 50% from 1999-2008, almost double the rate of growth in previous decade). Increase in military spending has funded a raft of major arms acquisitions in recent years, particularly by Brazil, Chile and Venezuela.
All aspects of the defense industry will be on display at LAAD 2013 – land, naval, aerospace and security. A sampling of the products/services that will be displayed: aerospace materials, IT hardware & software, engineering (design, manufacturing, R&D), Training & Simulation equipment, armaments, personal & protection equipment, Land & Sea Vehicles, Communication equipment, CISR, Marine Systems, Nuclear-Biological-Chemical Defense, Accessories (MRO), Logistical support.
LAAD 2011 was even more successful than LAAD 2009! The 2011 Show hosted 63 official delegations, which included 14 Ministers of Defense, from 61 countries. Trade visitors increased by 30 percent in 2011 compared to 2009, totaling 25,800 trade visitors, and 1,500 pre-scheduled meetings were held with exhibitors. Total exhibitors increased in 2011 to 660 exhibitors from 40 countries, with more than 20 countries having national pavilions.
