Congratulations to Illinois’ “E”Award Winners: On Monday, May 18, U.S. Commerce Secretary Penny Pritzker honored 45 American companies and organizations, many of which are small-and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), at the 2015 President’s “E” Awards ceremony. Four of the awardees are based in Illinois, and a fifth has offices in Illinois. In 1961, President Kennedy signed an executive order reviving the World War II “E” symbol of excellence to honor and provide recognition to America's exporters. The President’s “E” Award is the highest recognition any U.S. entity can receive for making a significant contribution to the expansion of U.S. exports. Garrett Popcorn Holding Company and Sumac, both of Chicago, won the “E” Award for Exports for demonstrating a sustained increase in export sales over a four-year period. The Illinois SBDC International Trade Center at Governors State University and MB Financial Bank won the “E” Award for Export Service, recognizing their contributions to assist and facilitate export activities. Trade Acceptance Group of Edina MN – with representation in Chicago – also won an “E” Award for Export Service. Congratulations to all!

A second IPS in the Turkish market is currently under way and the results look very promising. Simmons Engineering Corporation credits the positions for 12 employees and their ability to ride out the economic downturn directly to their export success.

Illinois companies were well-represented, receiving 5 of the 41 awards. The “E” Awards are the highest recognition any U.S. entity may receive for making a significant contribution to the expansion of U.S. exports. The primary criterion for the "E" Award is four years of successive export growth or of supporting the export growth of others.
