STUDY ILLINOIS

Is an international education consortium whose members are Illinois educational institutions that are pooling their resources to market their programs internationally? It ranks 5th in the nation in terms of the number of international students the State attracts. In the 2009-2010 academic years, over 31,093 international students were studying in Illinois, and had a positive economic impact (education services exports) on the state of $869 million.

Trade Specialist Debra Rogers spearheaded the formation of this collective marketing organization, which was officially launched in July 2004, and has been advising and co-organizing promotional events with them ever since.

Study Illinois has benefited considerably from its close association with the U.S. Commercial Service (CS), receiving extensive exposure to universities, study abroad agencies, and students around the world through the CS international network.

Ms. Rogers has also brought in other partner organizations, such as the Illinois Office of Trade and Investment and the International Trade Association of Greater Chicago, which have provided instrumental support to Study Illinois and contributed significantly to its success.

Ms. Rogers started an annual "Conference on Attracting International Students to Illinois", now in its 7th year, which features Overseas Education Advisers from the State Department-affiliated Education USA network. These advisers share information on the demand for U.S. education in their home countries, their educational systems as compared to that of the U.S., and the factors and barriers that influence international students' decisions to study abroad.

Quote from former Chair of Study Illinois:
“Deb Rogers has played a valuable role in ensuring the success of the Study Illinois consortium. Her guidance and advice on forming our organization, and her continued suggestions and participation is in my opinion one of the main factors in Study Illinois and its membership working so well. At every step in our professional relationship I've been able to rely on Deb's participation and support, and I've observed personally the admiration and respect her colleagues from across the globe show her.” April 25, 2008
