The U.S. Commercial Service in Chicago, Peoria and Rockford organizes and supports conferences, seminars, and events to educate our clients and promote international trade. Our goal is to help local U.S. exporters sell globally. A sampling of our events includes:
By organizing trade missions and educational seminars; providing matching or export counseling services at trade shows; and recruiting buyer delegations to U.S. trade shows, the U.S. Government helps U.S. exporters expand global sales at trade events.
Celebrate Export Successes during May World Trade Month
World Trade Month—designated for the month of May—gives us the opportunity to acknowledge the importance of global trade, and look back at the economic advancements we have made as a result. In 2015, our exports totaled $2.23 trillion, our exports to 58 international markets increased, and we achieved record exports with 20 global partners. Exports also supporting 11.5 million U.S. jobs and accounted for nearly 13 percent of U.S. GDP. In addition, last year, U.S. services exports tallied another strong year. In fact, business services; telecommunications, computer and information services; and travel all reached export increases of more than $1 billion.
2016 Energy Top Markets Reports Now Available
The U.S. Department of Commerce International Trade Administration's Top Markets Series is meant to help exporters determine their next export markets by comparing opportunities across borders. Each report ranks future export opportunities within a particular industry based on a sector-specific methodology. The reports provide a detailed assessment of the competitiveness landscape within a sector, as well as the opportunities and challenges facing U.S. exporters in key markets. Each report is available for download. Interested exporters can also download or view individual case studies within larger reports. New Commerce Report Illustrates Economic Benefits for U.S. Firms Doing Business with Trans-Pacific Partnership Countries
This week, the Department of Commerce released a new report that highlights the benefits U.S. businesses can experience when exporting to the 11 Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) countries. The report details each market’s top export sectors and explains how existing tariffs will be impacted once the agreement enters into force. Metro Chicago Exports Grants available for small and mid-sized companies:
Metro Chicago Exports has launched its 2016 Grant Program. Applications will be accepted until May 27, 2016. The single-round Grant Program will award grants up to $5,000 to help small and medium-sized companies navigate and address financial, structural and other barriers to exporting. Companies located in Chicago or Northeastern Illinois with fewer than 500 employees are eligible to apply. Commercial Officer from our U.S. Commercial Service office in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, Rafael Patino, will be in Chicago to meet one-on-one with firms interested in accessing the Dominican market. With a population of over 10.6 million consumers and a nominal GDP of $62.5 billion, the Dominican Republic (DR) is the ninth largest economy in Latin America and the second largest in the Caribbean region. The Dominican Republic is a middle income country, with per capita income over $9,700 per year. U.S. products and services enjoy a high reputation for quality and, due in part to CAFTA-DR, are highly competitive. Organized jointly by the U.S. Commercial Service, ELS Educational Services, and Education USA, this mission’s objective is to connect U.S. higher education institutions to potential students, institutional partners and education consultants in Nepal and India. The Mission will include networking opportunities with potential partners, embassy briefings, student fairs, and additional networking opportunities in Kathmandu, Nepal, and New Delhi and Kolkata, India for recruiting students to study in the United States. Plans also include an optional spin-off to Trivandrum, India on November 19.
