Posidonia International Shipping exhibition, a Commerce Department Certified Trade Fair held biennially, is one of the world's largest shipping exhibitions and a recognized showcase for the international maritime and shipping industries. Held for the first time at the state-of-the-art Metropolitan Expo center in the Athens International Airport complex, Posidonia 2012 will be held June 4-8, 2012.
A tradition that has spanned over 40 years, Posidonia 2010 broke all previous records. Over 1,859 exhibitors and 21 national Pavilions from 87 countries, including the U.S. (the highest number of participating countries ever for an international maritime function), took part in the 22nd staging of this event. The exhibitors represented all sectors of the shipping industry, including ship owners, shipbuilding firms, manufacturers of marine equipment and ship products of all kinds, software providers to shipbrokers, insurance and banking firms, port authorities, shipyards, and shipping related service firms. Water treatment specialists and pollution control experts were just two of the environmental firms at Posidonia 2010 in response to the significant cost savings generated through the effective implementation of environmentally-friendly innovations in the shipping sector.
More than 25,000 trade visitors attended Posidonia 2010, including over 12,000 visitors from Europe, the Middle East, the Americas, and other regions. Major receptions were given during Posidonia by national pavilions, including the U.S., and several other functions were organized by Posidonia exhibitors and Greek and international ship owners.
The U.S. Department of Commerce's Commercial Service in Athens will support U.S. companies participating in the U.S. Pavilion at Posidonia 2012 and maintain a full-time presence in order to assist exhibiting companies.
The U.S. Pavilion will be organized by UBM Live of Princeton, N.J. UBM invites the U.S. maritime industry (shipping companies, service providers, equipment manufacturers, etc.) to participate in the US Pavilion at Posidonia 2012, as the exhibition hosts the largest number of buyers from the Greek and international shipping community.
