The recreational boating market in Korea is steadily growing with boat registration increasing by an average of 16% annually. The country’s extensive natural coastline is ideal for boating with twenty marinas now open and operational and 12 more under construction. Fishing and scuba diving are increasing in popularity too.

In just six years, the Korea International Boat Show has grown to become one of the 3 leading boat shows in Asia and an ideal platform for U.S. companies looking to sell to this growing market.

Additionally, the U.S.–Korea Free Trade Agreement provides new opportunities for U.S. exporters to sell American manufactured goods and services as import duties on boats and related products are phased out. These low barriers to market entry, coupled with “Made In America” quality and prestige, make U.S. imports highly competitive in the Korean market.

Join us for this informative webinar to learn more about Korea’s emerging recreational boating industry, the Free Trade Agreement and opportunities to exhibit, with the support of the National Marine Manufacturers Association and the US Department of Commerce, in the Korea International Boat Show in June. Korea International Boat Show 2014- June 12–15, 2014 in Seoul, Korea

In just six years, the Korea International Boat Show (KIBS) has become one of the three leading boat shows in Asia.  Recreational boating in Korea is growing steadily; boat registrations increase at an average of 16% annually, and units have increased to 10,000 vessels during the past six years.  Currently, the greatest demand is for the outboard power boat category, including sport fishing boats less than 10m.  There is a growing interest in larger “cruiser” motorboats as the rapid expansion of coastal berthing in new marinas created a cruising corridor from the center of Seoul down to the west coast.

Since the U.S. Congress ratified the U.S.—Korea Free Trade Agreement, opportunities for U.S. exporters to sell American manufactured goods and services are increasing exponentially. In 2013, Korea is the United States’ sixth-largest largest trading partner while the U.S. is Korea’s third-largest.  Under the FTA, nearly 95% of consumer and industrial products will become duty free within the next three years.  With a U.S. Pavilion managed by CS Strategic Partner NMMA (The National Marine Manufacturers Association), this is an event not to be missed.  The U.S. Commerce Department can help you get the most out of your time in Korea through introductions to potential distributors and end-users, site visits and counseling on how to penetrate the Korean Pleasure Craft Sector.  For details and registration please contact Julie Balzano at jbalzano@nmma.org (Tel: 954.441.3234) or Bill Lawton at William.lawton@trade.gov.  Visit www.kibs.com for more information on the show.
