Event Summary:
U.S. defense and security companies interested in selling their products and services to Turkey and in European and Middle East markets should consider exhibiting at IDEF 2013, Turkey's International Defense Industry Fair. IDEF 2013 will take place May 7-10, 2013 at Tuyap Fair, Convention and Congress Center in Istanbul, Turkey. Sponsored by the Turkish Ministry of Defense, IDEF 2013 is one of the largest defense exhibitions in the region and will offer U.S. exhibitors an excellent opportunity to meet with key decision makers in Turkey's Armed Forces, along with distributors, potential partners and prime contractors in Turkey and throughout the region. U.S. Commercial Service staff and U.S. Department of Defense Cooperation officers will assist U.S. exhibitors in expediting contacts and meetings with major decision makers in Turkish and other foreign militaries and governments, and local and third country company officials. At IDEF 2011, more than 630 companies and representatives from 46 countries showcased their products and services to 34 Ministers and Deputy Ministers, 12 General Staff Chiefs and Deputy Chiefs, and 437 high-level foreign delegation members responsible for defense supply for their respective countries. Trade visitors at IDEF 2011 totaled 52,502, an increase of 22.7 percent over the 2009 show. As charter member of NATO and a key strategic ally of the United States, Turkey has the second largest armed forces in NATO, with more than 610,000 in uniform. In 2011, Turkey spent $17.9 billion on defense, with annual increases anticipated over the foreseeable future.
