WHAT TO KNOW

BEFORE YOU GO TO IRAQ

There is a lot to consider before travelling to Iraq. Given below are some web resources to inform you on the security situation and make the appropriate logistical plans.

1. Have a look at the Overseas Security Advisory Council (OSAC) website. When looking at the Iraq page, you can find the latest security information, including Crime and Safety Reports.

2. Peruse the State Department’s Smart Traveler Enrollment (STEP). This should be a priority to register anyone travelling here in country.

3. Consult some websites that offer advice on security and hotel accommodations. Many expat security providers usually run both lodging and security operations from the same provider, especially if operating from the International Zone (IZ).

4. You may wish to reach out to OSAC Analyst Sam Shepson (ShepsonS@state.gov), who is based in Washington, DC. He may have additional resources and information.
