Business Meetings

Face-to-face meetings with potential partners are the most effective tools the U.S. business community can use to increase exports and expand business operations abroad.  U.S. Commercial Service Kenya offers a complete package for the businessperson visiting this country to meet with potential business partners.  Prior to your trip we will work with you to identify appropriate agents, distributors, joint venture partners, procurement officials, and others you should meet to accomplish your goals while here.

We will schedule appointments with the key officials, and even arrange for a car and driver if so desired.

* A Small or Medium-Sized Enterprise (SME) is defined as a firm with 500 or fewer employees or self-certified as a small business under SBA regulations. A large company is defined as a firm with more than 500 employees. Subsidiaries will be classified based on the size of the parent company.

Driver will require an additional fee, which should be paid directly to the provider on termination of service. 

We can also make hotel reservations for you at special Embassy discount rates. Please take note that, in order to benefit from the discount hotel rates, reservations must be made by the U.S. Commercial Service in Kenya.  

You will benefit from a briefing with the American Officer and the Commercial Specialist responsible for your industry sector, and an illustrative study of direct import costs for your products to help you set appropriate pricing for this market.

Steps:

1. Contact our Commercial Specialists or an Export Assistance Centre nearest to you to discuss your needs

2. Fill out our detailed Partner Search Form and send it to the Commercial Specialist or Trade Specialist that you have spoken with.

3. A conference call will be arranged between all parties so that we confirm your expectations based on the form responses. Based on the discussion, you will be requested to send product literature to facilitate the service. * Please see note below.

4. A participation agreement will be prepared and sent to you for signing and payment, at which point the service will commence, and we will begin to schedule the appointments.

* Please send details and product literature (no products, no samples) by first-class U.S. mail, from the nearest Post Office, to our Diplomatic Mail Center address. Plan ahead, as it will take approximately four weeks for us to receive your brochures through this mail service.  Also, keep in mind that we require 30 business days advance notice.

We strongly recommend against mailing product literature through courier or airfreight services.  Should you feel more comfortable sending the materials by express courier, please mark clearly to "Bill Sender" any additional expenses on the airway bill.  You should also make it clear that the shipment has "no commercial value" and that its contents are "not for sale".   Courier services operating in Kenya are subject to Customs restrictions.  They are not permitted to retrieve shipments that exceed a certain volume and a certain weight.  If a shipment is held at Customs for any reason, CS Kenya will not retrieve it.  This would entail obtaining Customs clearance, paying storage fees, and other charges.  CS Kenya has neither the staff nor the financial resources to undertake this time- and money-consuming task.

We will proceed with setting up your appointments upon receiving your company’s product literature (10 sets for one day of appointments; 20 sets for two days of appointments) and confirmation of payment.  The U.S. Commercial Service accepts payments through American Express, Discover, MasterCard, and Visa credit cards.  If you would like to pay with a check, please make it payable to “U.S. Commercial Service".
