About the Speakers:

Mr. Ali Al-Matrouk
CEO
Makers Inc.

Currently is the CEO of Makers Inc. and Oro Real Estate Group USA, LLC. Previously, he was an NGN Engineer at Zain Kuwait. Zain is a leading and dominant Telecom Operator in the Middle East. He worked in a team responsible for the implementation and operation of Zain Network. Previously, he worked at Mezzan Holding Company, a family owned business, where he was exposed to merchandising and distribution of consumer goods. In 2009, he co-founded Makers Inc. a start-up in Kuwait focusing on education technology. Ali serves as a board member for the American Business Council - Kuwait. In 2007, he earned a dual BS/BA degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of San Diego. He graduated Summa Cum Laude and was the Chair of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) at the University of San Diego, as well as president of Eta Kappa Nu.

Mr. James Filpi
Senior Counsel, Commercial Law Development Program
US Department of Commerce

James D. Filpi is a Senior Counsel with the Commercial Law Development Program (CLDP) in the Office of the General Counsel of the United States Department of Commerce. CLDP provides consultative services to assist political, regulatory, judicial and commercial leaders to augment their policies, laws and organizational structures in order to improve the legal environment for doing business around the globe. Mr. Filpi primarily advises governments in North Africa, the Middle East, and Central Asia.

Mr. Filpi received his Juris Doctorate from Georgetown University Law Center, where he served as a student representative in the Center for Applied Legal Studies, representing refugees from Western Africa.

Mr. Filpi is a member of the American Bar Association Section of International Law and is a Vice Chair of the Middle East Committee. Mr. Filpi is also a member of the Maryland Bar Association Section of Business Law and the District of Columbia Bar Association Section of International Law.

Mr. Muddassir Saddiqqi

Muddassir Siddiqui is uniquely qualified both as a Shari’ah scholar and as a U.S. trained attorney. In 2010 Thomson Reuters wrote: “Shaikh Muddassir Siddiqui is "one of the industry’s most articulate practitioners, and one whose experience as both a lawyer and Shariah scholar puts him in rare company”. Muddassir is a member of New York Bar and Registered Foreign Lawyer with the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA), in the U.K. Muddassir Siddiqui serves as expert advisor to law firms and their clients in controversies pending before courts and arbitration tribunals in the US and UK courts on issues involving Saudi Shari’ah based laws and practices, as well as Islamic finance.

Mr. Tom Jersild

Tom Jersild is a retired partner at Mayer Brown, where he served as a corporate lawyer for 35+ years. He currently assists countries in transition with improving various aspects of their commercial laws including company law, corporate governance, and investment law.
