In April 2009, U.S. Commercial Service Bucharest was the first stop for the US company Curves which was interested in identifying a local franchisee and start up an operation in Romania.
The CS Bucharest provided Curves reps with business counseling to help them evaluate the market and per their request put them in touch with a Romanian firm specialized in industrial property rights.
The first FitCurves Fitness Center in Romania was officially launched on November 12, 2009 and the CS stepped in to support the event, by having the media invited and by delivering a keynote speech by SCO Kirkham.
The event was a success and the big turnout of the media highlighted the interest in this innovative women oriented fitness program.
Two encouraging conclusions could be drawn from the event: first, as a franchisee of the American company, the Romanian partner must adopt the standards imposed by the American franchisor on the quality of the fitness facility and equipment, instrumental in maintaining and promoting the concept; secondly, the potentially high rate of success of this concept, as more and more Romanian women are determined to improve their health and wellness in spite of their hectic everyday schedules.
