OAO RZD announced an open tender for design of the Moscow - Kazan high-speed mainline. The tender is to be held on April 16, 2015; the maximal price of the contract is 20.79 B RUR (VAT excl.). “The development of the high-speed railway transport is a totally new step in modernization of the Russian transportation system - the path that such countries as Japan, France, Spain, Germany, Italy, China and many others went through”, OAO RZD President Vladimir Yakunin said. “The international experience shows that infrastructure development projects are the key in fostering manufacture and development of the small and medium-sized business. Announcing the tender, we are certain that both Russian and foreign companies having experience in design and construction of the high-speed mainlines, will participate in it. I am sure that localization of the advanced railway technologies in Russia will have a positive impact on the development of the Russian economy”. The Moscow - Kazan mainline is to be 770 km long with 15 stops. The time en route is to be 3.5 hours. The estimate annual passenger turnover is expected at 10.5 M. Under the project the localization is to be not less than 80%. It is to be the largest infrastructure project in Russia that will support machine-building, construction, metallurgy and other industries.
