While Rwandans have traditionally looked to Africa, Europe and Dubai for the bulk of their trade, there is growing demand for U.S. products. An increasing number of Rwandans place value in quality durable goods from the U.S. rather than less expensive products from the UAE and China. Construction equipment, telecommunications equipment and used clothing make up the majority of Rwanda's imports from the U.S. There have also been several large individual sales from U.S. companies over the past few years. In 2009 Harris Corp sold $ 16 million in radio transmission equipment and digital television studio equipment to the government and Boeing signed a sales agreement with Rwandair for two 737-800 jets worth an estimated $ 100 million. Rwanda is a net importer of food and has a very small manufacturing base, creating opportunities for investment.
