National Export Initiative
In President Obama’s State of the Union Address on January 27, 2010, he announced the National Export Initiative (NEI), a critical new effort that will lead to long-term, sustainable economic growth for the United States. The President has a goal of doubling exports over the next five years, an increase that will support two million American jobs. For the first time, the United States will have a government-wide export-promotion strategy with focused attention from the President and his Cabinet.
Under NEI, Turkey has been designated a priority market for sustained focused attention. In support of this goal, the U.S. Commercial Service in Turkey posted over 180 export transactions in Fiscal Year 2011, worth over $ 3.6 billion. Conservatively estimated, our return on $40 for every taxpayer dollar spent, reflecting our commitment to providing tangible gains to American companies and our country.
