A Small Business Summit: Building Bridges between Northern Virginia and Asia, May 8th 8:30am-Noon

Congressman Jim Moran will be hosting a Small Business Summit on Tuesday, May 8th from 8:30am-Noon at the James Lee Community Theater, 2855-A Annandale Road, Falls Church, VA. The goal of the event is to highlight the current economic outlook in Northern Virginia, provide entrepreneurs and those interested in starting small businesses the tools and networks to expand, and to help them build their relationships with Asian nations through trade.

The presentations will include an overview of the Northern Virginia economy and opportunities for small business growth by Dr. Stephen Fuller of George Mason University, and an update on the US Korea Trade Agreement and how Northern Virginia is affected. Delegate Mark Keam, a community leader and corporate executive, will moderate a panel discussion on the next steps for entrepreneurs based on the current state of trade and the economy of Northern Virginia. The discussion will include advice on business development, export assistance, small business lending, and a personal perspective from an entrepreneur. There will also be exhibitors present to provide additional resources on small business development and trade opportunities.

ExportDC, a brand new office of the DC Department of Small and Local Business Development, is organizing an exciting Washington DC Small Business Trade Mission to South Africa. This mission is designed to provide qualified DC small businesses the opportunity to expand operations in the booming South African Market. This Trade Mission is scheduled from June 11-15, 2012 and will provide opportunity for business meetings and matchmaking in both Johannesburg and Cape Town.
